Looking at the Stars on a cold and clear night in the Mountains is always the best. It combines two things which I love the most, stargazing and mountaineering 🏔🌌 #astronomy #astrophotography (hier: Grindelwald, Switzerland)

This image shows the Dumbbell Nebula (M27). It’s a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula, at a distance of about 1360 light-years. A planetary nebula is a kind of emission nebula consisting of an expanding, glowing shell of ionized gas ejected from old red giant stars in their late lives.
I’m not an expert in deep sky imaging but I hope you like it!

My best Saturn so far?
Just half an hour after sunset the air was pretty stable and the seeing conditions were good for about 20 minutes. So this is the result when the seeing is good. I’ve uploaded the Video of the imaging session on my YouTube. Just click on the link in the infobox ⬆️⬆️⬆️

After more than 2 minutes of darkness, the sunlight makes its path through valleys on the moons surface. This phase right after totality is called the Diamond Ring.
I’ve uploaded a video of my experience during totality on my YouTube. The link is in the infobox ⬆️⬆️⬆️

The moment of totality. A moment I will never forget. You can’t describe it with words how surreal and intense this spectacular sight was. It was just out of this world and will be in my mind forever!

Unfortunately the balloon launch wasn’t possible due to severe thunderstorms right before and after the totality. But we did our measurements on the ground which produced very interesting data.

Thank you for all the nice people here in Missouri who made this possible. A Special thanks to @rickgadget who was the biggest help I can imagine!
